IO#12 Iodine Plant in the Permian Basin Commissioned
Iofina plc, specialists in the exploration and production of iodine and manufacturers of specialty chemical products, is pleased to announce that the Company’s IO#12 IOsorb® plant is now commissioned. The new plant is undergoing hydrotesting, and brine water is now flowing through its system, with production expected to begin and ramp up over the coming weeks.
IO#12 is the Company’s largest capacity plant to date and is the first-ever commercial-scale iodine production facility in the Permian Basin. With Iofina’s partner, Western Midstream Partners, LP (“Western Midstream”), supplying up to 50,000 Bbls/d of produced water, the Company is targeting an annual production range at IO#12 of between 170-220 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine.

Commenting, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tom Becker said:
“Today marks an exciting day for Iofina. Building a plant of this size, and the first in the Permian Basin, has been a new challenge for our entire team, but I am delighted to confirm that the plant has now been handed over to our operations group. We now have our sights firmly set on simultaneously building our next two IOsorb® plants, IO#13 and IO#14, in the central Oklahoma core area, which we expect to be completed by the end of H1 2027 and have us firmly on course to reach our 2000MT target.”
Oscar K. Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Midstream, added:
“When we announced this partnership, we said solving the Permian’s produced water challenge would take an all-of-the-above approach. Today, we’re putting that approach into action. Bringing this facility online with Iofina shows what’s possible when we combine Western Midstream’s scale, infrastructure, and water expertise with Iofina’s innovative iodine recovery technology to create additional value from the water we manage every day.”
