Iodophor

Iodophor is a preparation that combines iodine and a solubilizing agent, resulting in water-soluble material. It is often used as an anti-septic or disinfectant and is effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Iodophor plays a crucial role in farm hygiene since it sanitizes equipment and surfaces in livestock housing. They are also applied directly to animals as:

• Teat dips: Teat-dip sanitizer contains iodine as an active ingredient and other compounds. They are applied to the udder skin of dairy cows after milking to kill bacteria and prevent infections like mastitis, an inflammation of the udders.
• Udder wash: Udder wash is a formulation used in dairy farming to clean cow udders before milking. It sanitizes cow teats and prevents the spread of bacteria and infections. Maintaining udder health also helps protect the quality of milk being produced.

Hydriodic Acid

Hydriodic acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen iodide dissolved in water to form a strong acid. Due to its high acidity, it is used as a disinfectant and effectively kills various types of germs and other microbes. The solution is often used for cleaning medical tools and equipment, making it ideal for veterinary hygiene applications. 

Calcium Iodate

Calcium Iodate is an inorganic compound commonly used in animal nutrition as a dietary iodine supplement, particularly in livestock. Iodine is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones and metabolic regulation. Calcium iodate helps prevent thyroid deficiency in animals, which could lead to goiter and other health issues. 

Chloramine-T

Chloramine-T is a chlorinated compound with antimicrobial properties. It is used as an anti-septic and disinfectant, making it crucial for veterinary hygiene. This compound is also effective in aquaculture for treating external bacterial infections in salmonid fish.

Cuprous Iodide

Cuprous Iodide is an inorganic compound consisting of copper and iodine. The compound has a range of applications, from organic synthesis to cloud seeding. Due to its low water solubility, cuprous iodide is often used as an iodine carrier when non-water solubility is required. It is included in livestock feeds to provide trace minerals and prevent iodine deficiency in animals. 

Potassium Iodide

Potassium Iodide is a chemical compound often used to regulate thyroid function in animals by supplementing iodine intake. It is also effective in treating selected fungal, actinomycete and bacterial infections. 

Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide (EDDI)

EDDI is a water-soluble salt that combines ethylenediamine, iodide anions and hydroiodic acid. It is a source of iodine and is used as a feed additive in livestock and pet food. It provides an essential iodine supplement in animal diets and contributes to their overall health and metabolic function.
